Bruce is currently a volunteer member of Fire

Associates of Santa Clara Valley, an organization

providing Rehab support to the 11 fire departments of

Santa Clara County.

Between 1988 and 1995 Bruce was the Controller for

the Concord and then Concord/Drummyone units of the

NSW State Emergency Services in Australia. In this

capacity he was the officer in charge of three rescue

teams in metropolitan Sydney, responsible for an area

spanning 17 suburbs.

While working with the SES Bruce worked in

conjunction with local Police, Fire and Ambulance

services on a regular basis, commanding incidents of all sizes from personal injuries through to major storms devastating thousands of houses.

Bruce was certified in communications, basic and  advanced first aid, basic, advanced and heavy rescue as well as a myriad of associated tasks and skills. He also studied Emergency Management and Evacuation Management at the Australian Counter Disaster College (run by the Australian Department of Defense) in Macedon, Victoria. Bruce was an instructor for the SES in rescue, advanced rescue and communications amongst other things.

Bruce's involvement in the SES ended when he moved to California in 1996. In his spare time he now works on the YourFireDepartment.org web site and since mid 2008 has been taking photos of some of the Santa Clara County region's Fire Apparatus and Fire Stations. Bruce is a member of the International Fire Photographers Association. He hopes to increase his involvement with some of the Departments in his area, collecting information for the web site, and potentially finding other ways of assisting them.
